EVELINE HASTINGS was born in Highgate, London to a family of sculptors. Her early life was disrupted first by the death of her father in 1938 and then by WW2. She wanted to paint from an early age and left school at 16 to go to the Wimbledon School of Art. From there she was offered places at the Royal College of Art and at the Slade School of Fine Art, she chose the latter, where she was taught by, amongst others, William Coldstream, Claude Rogers and Lucian Freud. In 1956 she took a postgraduate year and entered paintings for the Rome Scholarships. After a career working in Adult Education in London and continuing to paint (often in East Anglia), she moved there permanently in 2000.
